Baton Rouge Polyolefins Plant (BRPO)

Baton Rouge Polyolefins Plant (BRPO)

History
The Polyolefins Plant was purchased by Exxon Chemical in 1998 and has been modernized and expanded over the past years to meet customer demand. A significant polypropylene (PP) project was commissioned in 2000 and debottlenecked in 2006, which increased plant capacity to more than 2.8 billion pounds annually.

BRPO today
The plant is currently staffed by approximately 260 employees and 70 contractors.

End products and their uses
The plant produces high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) for customer applications, including blow-molded milk containers, food containers, containers for shampoos, detergents and cleaners, durable drums for industrial products, carpet backing, diapers, hospital gowns, bed liners for trucks, fuel tanks that will not rust or corrode and lightweight crates and pallets for shipping support.

Achievements and awards
The Polyolefins plant was an early leader in the industry to adopt Total Quality Management and achieve ISO 9000 status. In 2008, the plant received the S.A.F.E. (Serious About Fostering Excellence) award from the Louisiana Chemical Association for the eighth consecutive year, recognizing the plant as the “Best in Louisiana.”

In 2008, the plant also received the Distinguished Safety Award (DSA) from the National Petrochemical and Refineries Association (NPRA) for an unprecedented six consecutive years (2003-2008). This award is NPRA’s most prestigious honor.
