Regulatory and compliance expenditures

In 2008, our worldwide environmental expenditures totaled about $5.2 billion. This includes about $2.5 billion in capital expenditure and about $2.7 billion in operating expense. Fines and settlements paid in 2008 represent about one-quarter of 1 percent of our total environmental expenditures.
