World Malaria Day commemorates the global effort to control and end deaths from malaria. Occurring on April 25 each year, it provides an opportunity for advocates to raise awareness and generate support for the fight against this disease. In 2012, ExxonMobil participated in a number of activities on and around World Malaria Day in order to highlight the progress our partners have already made fighting this disease and to recruit more champions for these efforts.

Activities in Africa
ExxonMobil participated in key activities across Africa to educate individuals, raise public awareness and help fight the spread of malaria in recognition of World Malaria Day. Working with partners in Africa, these World Malaria Day initiatives include:

  • In Nigeria, partnering with Family Care to promote and publicly broadcast various prevention and treatment tools and resources.
  • In Angola, convening malaria partners for a Malaria Day fair where representative will provide educational materials on malaria treatment and prevention.
  • In Cameroon, participating with Malaria No More in a Malaria Day walk through the capital city of Yaoundé.
  • In Chad, working with key partner Jhpiego to host malaria talks at local health centers to educate pregnant women on malaria prevention.
