'Super jumbo’ partnership with Singapore Airlines to benefit charities.
When the new Airbus A380 “super jumbo” jet takes to the skies on its inaugural commercial flight in October, ExxonMobil Aviation will power the engines.
ExxonMobil Aviation has been invited exclusively by Singapore Airlines as a strategic supplier and key partner to sponsor the fuel component for the double-decked A380 as part of its maiden voyage’s charitable mission.
In response to tremendous consumer interest in being part of the historic moment, Singapore Airlines plans to auction off to high bidders the 480 seats on the A380’s inaugural flight, with assistance from eBay. Successful bidders will fly from Singapore to Sydney, Australia, and all proceeds from the auction will be donated to charity.
“This charity event is in line with our long-standing effort to make a positive impact on the communities in which we operate. Getting this opportunity is one of the intangible benefits of our partnership with a key airline like Singapore Airlines and it will be a win-win for both Singapore Airlines and ExxonMobil Aviation,” said Kenny Warren, global director of ExxonMobil Aviation.
Proceeds from the flight will be split between Singapore’s Community Chest, two children’s hospitals in Sydney and the global assistance organization Doctors Without Borders.
With the first flight tested in 2005, the A380 is the largest passenger airliner in the world. Delivery of the first A380 to Singapore Airlines is expected in early October and the flight will likely take place in late October. To learn more, go to the Singapore Airlines web site.
