| | HSV Maloo R8 Ute in Mobil 1 Drive Around Australia 37,000km Drive -
Guinness World Record Holder
4 October 2006
Melbourne - The journey that has spanned five months, covered over 37,000km
and explored all corners of Australia is finally drawing to a close.
The HSV Maloo R8 Ute was crowned the World’s Fastest Ute by the Guinness Book
of World Records in June, when Holden Racing Team’s Mark Skaife topped the
world land speed record at the Woomera test facility.
In
(month) the Maloo Ute set out on the Mobil Drive Around Australia, an event
designed by Mobil Oil Australia to demonstrate and trial one of the most
advanced synthetic oil technologies developed to date: Mobil 1 with
SuperSyn. The entire drive has been undertaken without once changing the Mobil
1 engine oil.
The Ute clocked just over 37,000km just before
encountering the delights of the Deniliquin Ute Muster last weekend.
With the Drive Around Australia nearly complete the Mobil 1 Maloo now heads
for the bright lights of the Bathurst 1000 as part of the Peter Brock
Foundation Tribute Drive. Peter’s brothers Phillip and Lewis Brock are set to
lead the procession of cars honouring the memory of a man who will forever be
known as the "King of the Mountain".
At Bathurst
the HSV Ute will take its place in the World of HSV alongside its stable mates
from the HSV range. Visitors to the stand will have the opportunity to see
the Maloo and make a personal contribution to the Peter Brock Foundation.
The Mobil 1 Maloo hits centre stage on Sunday before the Great Race with a lap
around Australia’s most famous racetrack. HRT driver Mark Skaife will be
behind the wheel once more, not aiming at setting records this time but rather
giving the crowd a good look at the World’s Fastest Ute.
