One of the most effective and rewarding ways that ExxonMobil contributes to our communities is through our employees.
Employees are involved in a wide range of causes either directly or through fundraising initiatives such as the Bass Strait Charity Fund, the Around the Bay bike ride in Melbourne, and the national Heart Foundation Climb to the Top Challenge.
ExxonMobil has also taken a proactive approach to encourage and support employee participation in the community through our Volunteer Involvement Program and our Day of Caring, an employee volunteering event.
Volunteer Involvement Program
ExxonMobil's Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP) supports the volunteer work of employees who give their personal time to community organisations. ExxonMobil offers employees who are involved as volunteers the opportunity to apply for $1,000 grants to assist their volunteer work.
Schools, environment groups, fire brigades, surf life saving clubs, welfare and cultural groups have all benefited from ExxonMobil donations and the volunteer work of employees. In 2006, around 150 community groups received a VIP Award in recognition of the volunteering efforts of our employees.
Day of Caring
Working in association with the Lord Mayor's Charitable Fund/United Way the ExxonMobil Day of Caring brings employees from all parts of our operations together for a days volunteering work at selected community facilities such as community centres and aged care hostels. ExxonMobil teams help to clean, paint, garden, catalogue and pack for those in need.
Some of the charities that benefited from the Day of Caring include: Alkira Centre, Australian Red Cross, Cancer Council Victoria, Scope Victoria, Seeing Eye Dogs Australia and Taralye. Click here for a list of all the charities.
Around 270 employees participate in the Day of Caring. The benefits and the difference that volunteers can make in our community are significant. As well as employees learning new skills, this project raises the profile of the volunteer role.
