Exploration is responsible for conducting geological and geophysical surveys to find commercial oil and gas and, if successful, to assist in its production.

Graduate geologists and geophysicists have the opportunity to develop their petroleum geoscience skills across a broad range of technical disciplines.

Geoscientists in exploration mostly work as part of integrated, multi-disciplinary teams that provide ample opportunity for individuals to develop and apply a broad range of technical skills.

Tasks undertaken by the geoscience teams include assessment of hydrocarbon systems in sedimentary basins, seismic interpretation and mapping, drilling wells, well log analysis and business planning and economic evaluations.
