Name: Andrew University: University of Melbourne
Course: Civil Engineering / Commerce
----------------------------------------------------
Andrew
is from country Victoria, and joined Esso as a graduate in early 2004. He
graduated from the University of Melbourne with a double degree in Civil
Engineering and Commerce. Andrew's first role was in the Maintenance &
Reliability Group, where he was responsible for Cranes & Lifting Equipment
across all onshore and offshore sites.
"My first role as Cranes & Lifting Engineer gave me great exposure to all
the Esso sites, both onshore and offshore, and provided a mix of technical and
"hands on" opportunities. While in the role, I took the opportunity to
develop knowledge in oil and gas processing which enabled a smooth transition
into an offshore production surveillance role."
Andrew has recently commenced an assignment in Equatorial Guinea on the West
coast of Africa. Andrew is a Subsea Engineer, providing engineering support
for a network of subsea wellheads and pipelines which produce back to two
FPSO's (Floating Production, Storage and Offtake vessels). The subsea
facilities in E.G. allow production in water depths up to 800m.
This is a "rotating" position, where Andrew is on a 28 day on, 28 day off
roster, flying back to Australia.
"The working experience in Africa is vastly different to Australia. What
is considered basic business in Australia can be a real challenge in Africa.
However the work experience gained by supporting an operation in a remote
location is immense, not to mention the terrific cultural and personal
experience."
"As a graduating civil engineer, I never imagined after 3 years in the work
force I would be working with subsea production equipment on the other side of
the world! The opportunities are vast, and the early training provided by
Exxonmobil allows young engineers to develop rapidly."
