Course: Electrical Engineering / Science
----------------------------------------------------
Jagir began his career at ExxonMobil after completing a degree in Electrical Engineering and Science at Monash University.
"When I was looking around at various graduate career options on offer, I evaluated companies along four distinct factors - diverse opportunities, a chance to be involved in technically challenging and world- class engineering activities, an international career path, and long term opportunities. ExxonMobil was the one place that provided all these attributes."
Jagir's first role was in the Maintenance and Reliability group, working as an Electrical Integrity engineer for Onshore Processing facilities and Offshore platforms. It entailed working large power generation and distribution projects through to small scale instrumentation reliability improvement initiatives.
"I also developed an expertise in electrical heat tracing and subsequently represented Australia in a work group of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to develop the IEC standards for design, installation and maintenance of electric heat tracing".
Following this first role Jagir spent 2 years working as a Gas Plants Surveillance engineer, with responsibilities for technical monitoring of gas and natural gas liquids process facilities.
After building technical knowledge in these two roles Jagir worked in the Planning Department, starting out as a Production Planner, then later as a Corporate Planner. These roles spanned from business performance reporting and analysis to senior local and overseas management, developing long-term strategic business plans and budgets for ExxonMobil operations in Australia and PNG.
“I was able to spent 3 months with the ExxonMobil Planning team in Houston as a Capital Budget analyst. That opportunity allowed me gain an understanding of the scale of ExxonMobil's global operations and an appreciation of the role of senior managers in making quality investment decisions today that will affect the business for 20 to 30 years into the future."
Jagir then became the supervisor of the Inspection Engineering group, overseeing the technical work of 20 engineers and technicians in implementing integrity management programs for ExxonMobil's Gippsland operations. The role covered all offshore platforms, two onshore plants and hundreds of kilometres of pipelines.
"This role highlighted to me the importance of managing the integrity of our facilities, some as old as 35 years, with high quality inspection programs and a data-driven risk management mindset. I also had the opportunity to steward contracts worth $30 million dollars per year."
Jagir is currently living in Luanda, Angola and is the Subsea and Projects Supervisor for ExxonMobil's Angolan Operations. Together with technical oversight for Subsea and Projects, has leadership responsibilities for development of young Angolan engineers to be the future senior technical and business leaders of the Angolan affiliate.
"Nine years on, I can honestly say that working for ExxonMobil has surpassed my initial expectations for work diversity, technical challenges, global experiences and long term career orientation. However, what I have really enjoyed through all my assignments is the highly talented, young and motivated engineers, and an environment that strongly values personal integrity and ethics."
