Name: Belinda University: Melbourne
Course Chemical Engineering / Commerce
----------------------------------------------------
Belinda started with ExxonMobil during summer 2001/2002 with vacation work at Altona Refinery. After completing a double degree in Chemical Engineering and Commerce at the University of Melbourne she returned as a graduate in 2003.
Belinda’s first role was as a Project Engineer. She was responsible for the management of multiple projects ranging from offshore facility modifications required to support drilling operations to the upgrade of a vessel monitoring radar system.
In 2005, Belinda moved to the Offshore Surveillance Group to support the day to day operation of three offshore oil platforms. Typical activities included working closely with platform personnel to identify new opportunities, scope projects and optimise the performance of the platforms.
After Belinda’s Surveillance Engineering role she returned to Projects in 2007 as a Project Engineer on the Turrum Phase 2 Development Project in the Bass Strait. Working on such a large scale project has broadened Belinda’s exposure to the various facets of project management and has allowed her to participate in a variety of activities from technically reviewing 3D models to presentations in front of company Vice Presidents. It has also allowed her to interface with various people from the global organisation. While they are spread all over the world they are just a phone call away.
“Working for ExxonMobil has offered me the opportunity to take a hands on approach to applying my engineering skills. It has also allowed me to experience the unique way of life on an offshore platform, manage multi-million dollar projects and work with a range of people varying from contractors to operations and in-house technical experts.”
"I have learnt an immense amount not only on the job but also through formal training, both local and overseas. The challenges, opportunities and levels of responsibility I have been provided with at ExxonMobil have made my first five years of working life extremely interesting and rewarding.”
