----------------------------------------------------
Melanie
joined ExxonMobil’s affiliate Esso Australia in 2001 after having graduated
from the University of Adelaide with an Honours degree in Geology. Her first
role was in the Gippsland Production group where she worked as a production
geologist for the Snapper and Whiting fields. After two years in this role,
Melanie was transferred to the ExxonMobil office in Kuala Lumpur, Malayisa.
Here she spent two years working on an infill drilling program for an oil and
gas field in the South China Sea. She is now currently working with
ExxonMobil’s Development Company on the commercialisation of PNG Gas resources
in Melbourne.
“My main reasons for joining ExxonMobil were
for the training and international job opportunities. ExxonMobil’s training
has proven to be excellent. There are many formal training schools run by the
Upstream Research Company in Houston or in the field.”
“After six years working for ExxonMobil, I have been fortunate to see three
different stages of the business from mature production to late stage
development and now the very early stage development planning, including the
opportunity to work and live overseas. One of the best things about working
for ExxonMobil though, is the people you work with on a day to day basis. Not
only are they a great group to work with, everyone has such diverse
backgrounds and they are always willing to discuss their ideas and
experiences”.
